Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday that manager Ron Roenicke will return next season. Roenickes club option for 2015 was exercised during spring training, but his job status came into question after a late-season collapse cost the Brewers a playoff spot. The Brewers were 51-32 and led the National League Central by 6 1/2 games on June 28, but wound up finishing third in the division and six games back in the wild card race at 82-80. Roenicke, 58, has compiled a 335-313 record during his four seasons at the helm. In his first year in 2011, he led the Brewers to a franchise-record 96 wins and a division title. The news wasnt as good for two members of Roenickes staff, as hitting coach Johnny Narron and first base/infield coach Garth Iorg were not retained. Over the course of the last few weeks, we have evaluated the work of Ron and his coaches and believe that this is the best course of action to take, Brewers president of baseball operations and general manager Doug Melvin said in a statement. We appreciate the work that Johnny and Garth did for us through the years, and moves like these are never easy to make. We have already started reviewing our player personnel and will continue to address the factors that led to our disappointing finish to the season. Pitching coach Rick Kranitz, bench coach Jerry Narron, third base coach Ed Sedar, outfield coach John Shelby, bullpen coach Lee Tunnell and coach Mike Guerrero also will return in 2015. Sevilla keeper Beto denied late Valencia substitute Jonas from point-blank in the 87th to preserve the advantage, then Eduardo Vargas headed off the crossbar as Valencia nearly scored a valuable away goal. The Croatia midfielders free kick was headed on to the far post where Mbia, who appeared to be offside, got turned around trying to reach it as it bounced through his legs before recovering for the athletic score. Valencia looked demoralized right after Victor Perez combined with Bacca to play the Colombian through to create a two-goal cushion. "One of the most important things is that we didnt concede," Bacca said. "We could have had a third, but them too." Bacca was dangerous throughout, forcing Guaita to save his header and a solo effort set up by Rakitic in the 56th, either side of Guaitas save on Federico Fazios header. Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra headed over goal in stoppage time after Valencias final flurry of chances.
